How the UK passport photo process works

A UK passport photo is 35×45 mm with the face (chin to crown) measuring 29–34 mm, on a plain light grey or cream background — not pure white. The easiest route is the fully digital one: when you apply on GOV.UK you upload a single photo and the system checks it automatically, so a print is optional. The photo must be taken within the last month and show a plain, neutral expression with your mouth closed and eyes open.
